10 Journal Prompts for Gratitude

“Wear gratitude like a cloak, and it will feed every corner of your life.” —Rumi

Gratitude has been shown to support not only mental health, but also physical health, and I certainly think spiritual well-being also.

Practicing gratitude through your writing practice does not need to be complicated. Gratitude shifts the focus from our inner world and worries or preoccupations to the positive that exists all around us. Gratitude is often transformational when we can slow down and simply acknowledge, through journaling, what is going well that we can give thanks for.

Here are some of my favorite writing prompts for calling in more gratitude:

  1. What are your favorite things about the current season (spring, summer, autumn, winter) you find yourself in?

  2. When you reflect on the last 24 hours what can you acknowledge as having supported your life and well-being?

  3. Who has been kind to you recently? What was that like for you? How can you pay it forward?

  4. Some of my favorite small pleasures in life are…

  5. One thing I can do today to make my life feel more peaceful is…

  6. When I focus on gratitude I…

  7. The benefits I experience when prioritizing gratitude are…

  8. The most grateful person I know is…

  9. What I admire the most about myself is…

  10. When I’m at my best I can…
